Application for support of a dual-language program in elementary schools serving CB5 families

At the monthly meeting of Community Board Five on Thursday, December 12, 2013, the Board passed the following resolution by a vote of 33 in favor; 0 opposed; 1 abstaining; 1 present but not entitled to vote:

WHEREAS, A not-for-profit group promoting French-English Dual-Language Programs for New York City Public Schools has expressed interest in partnering with elementary schools that are either located within CB5 or are serving the children living within CB5 boundaries; and

WHEREAS, Such programs exist in New York City public schools in Brooklyn and in Manhattan; and

WHEREAS, The programs have shown to improve the grades and test results of the students who are currently enrolled; and

WHEREAS, Parents of prospective students of PS340, located at West 17th Street and 6th Avenue have expressed strong support for a French dual-language program; therefore be it

RESOLVED, Community Board Five strongly supports the creation of a dual-language program within PS340.
