Museums, public art programs, civic organizations and public parks are focusing on outdoor art as a catalyst to showcase emerging or established artists, to inspire, to incite debate, and to bring people to different destinations. Is there increased focus on public art today because of innovations in the field? Why are communities and institutions endorsing this type of work as part of civic responsibility? Are there benefits to neighborhoods hosting public art? Are there risks for the artist or the site in realizing new work in unexpected space? How do artists and institutions endorse innovative methods for public art in studios and sites?
